Our Mission

The Center for Regenerative Society provides leadership renewal programs for people and institutions playing an important role in shaping a healthy, just and sustainable society.

We offer programs in our service territory that address three interrelated needs:

Tending the roots of vocation and leadership, photo by Hank Herrera 2010We shape these programs mindful that a regenerative society cannot be sustained around us unless it is being cultivated within us. This need to cultivate regenerative soils, souls and society requires us to reconnect with that which sustains us, both physically and spiritually – to live and lead from within.

We gather diverse groups of leaders: activists, citizens, social and business entrepreneurs, youth, and religious leaders from all traditions, who play crucial roles in the social change process.  (Read more about Who We Serve)

A paradigm of resilience - disucussion with Fred Kirschenmann, photo by Hank Herrera © 2010By bringing these vital leaders together, we promote cross-sector relationships, collaborative solutions, and adaptive leadership among those who are working to make our environmental, social and economic life more regenerative in nature.

In order to live in a regenerative economy and society that will endure – that is healthy, just and sustainable – we must go beyond addressing our problems in isolation. Given the deep interconnectedness of our energy and water supplies, our infrastructure and architecture, our chemical processes and products, our agricultural and food systems, our toxics and human health, our educational systems and religious traditions, our business models and missions, our political economy, and employment opportunities, and the strengths and struggles of our communities, we are called to systems thinking and to “solving for pattern.”

From the fundamental restoration and renewal of those primary earth systems involving soil, air, and water, upon which we all depend, to the careful healing and righting of the wounds of social, racial, and economic inequity and disadvantage, we offer renewal for leaders who are advancing the emerging pattern of regenerativity throughout society.

Our unique niche in this broader movement for a healthy, just and sustainable future is a combination of the particular leaders, programs and territory served by the Center.  We are here to sustain the sustainers, doing our part by renewing the leaders restoring our world.
