Partnered Leadership Programs
In addition to our own Regenerative Leadership Retreats, we partner with other centers to bring some of their field-tested, highly-regarded programs to our area. The resulting array of complementary leadership renewal programs provides multiple points of entry for personal and professional evolution.
Circle of Trust® Retreats
(From the Center for Courage and Renewal)
Foundations of the Circle of Trust® Approach
When people connect who they are with what they do, the seeds of transformation are planted in their lives and the lives of those they touch. When those people join with each other, transformation becomes a possibility in the larger world. Circles of Trust® support such movements toward positive personal and social change in venues ranging from the family to the workplace to the larger community.
The Circle of Trust approach is distinguished by principles and practices intended to create a process of shared exploration where people can find safe space to nurture personal and professional integrity and the courage to act on it. These principles and practices are grounded in the Center for Courage and Renewal’s core values, which spell out the foundational beliefs and intended purposes for their work with individuals, groups and organizations.

Courage and Renewal's Core Values:
Integrity/Wholeness
Authenticity
Diversity
Community
Courage
Love
Hope
Renewal
Principles of the Circle of Trust Approach:
- Everyone has an inner teacher
- Inner work requires solitude and community
- Inner work must be invitational
- Our lives move in cycles like the seasons
- An appreciation of paradox enriches our lives and helps us hold greater complexity
- We live with greater integrity when we see ourselves whole
- A ”hidden wholeness“ underlies our lives
Practices of the Circle of Trust Approach:
- Creating spaces that are open and hospitable, but resource-rich and charged with expectancy
- Committing to no fixing, advising, “saving” or setting each other straight
- Asking honest, open questions to “hear each other into speech”
- Exploring the intersection of the universal stories of human experience with the personal stories of our lives
- Using multiple modes of reflection so everyone can find his or her place and pace
- Honoring confidentiality

Courage to Lead® Retreat Series
(From the Center for Courage and Renewal)
Courage to Lead is an 18 month program of leadership development and renewal comprised of five quarterly retreats (four in one year and a final one six months later). Courage to Lead will explore issues of vocation, leadership, identity and integrity using the cycle of the seasons as a backdrop for that exploration. Based on the work of Parker Palmer and described in his latest book A Hidden Wholeness, Courage to Lead builds on ten years of success in working with educators across the country. Now offered for leaders in business, education, government, health, law, clergy, and non-profit organizations, these retreats use a unique approach to renewing personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality.
Just as nature has a cycle of renewal through the seasons, we too experience natural cycles of engagement and withdrawal, love and loss, creativity and despair in our lives and work. When we take time to slow down, quiet ourselves, and reflect on our lives—to renew ourselves and our commitments—important changes happen, within and without. As we are renewed, we in turn contribute to the renewal of our professions, workplaces, and communities.
Using a small group formation, Courage to Lead is committed to creating open, disciplined spaces – circles of trust – where participants can discover again the deep connection between role and soul. Through a variety of experiences, participants are invited to listen for their own inner wisdom, to create a community of mutual respect and to reconnect professional identity and personal integrity.

Powers of Leadership Seasonal Retreat Cycle
(From the Whidbey Institute)
Led by: Craig Fleck, Stephanie Ryan and Benjamin Webb
With Special guests to be announced
Powers of Leadership: Meeting the Challenges of the New Commons
Effective leadership takes into account every sphere of endeavor: education, business, government, health, science and technology, religion, the arts, law, philanthropy, the media, the family, and community. It must combine depth of purpose with breadth of perspective, clarity of vision with flexibility of response, capacity for individual initiative with commitment to the common good.
Leadership today requires the ability to see patterns in complex systems, the interdependence of diverse communities, and morally ambiguous challenges. We can no longer survive by functioning as separate individuals or independent organizations. The art of leadership requires a connective imagination, an informed conscience, and practiced competence.
The Powers of Leadership retreat series convenes a diverse corps of people across strategic fields to gain perspective on the currents of change moving in these times, to develop new insight, and to strengthen their skills and commitment to work on behalf of a more just, sustainable and prosperous world.
In this series of four seasonal retreats, you will:
- Distinguish between the responsibilities of authority and the challenges of leadership;
- Reclaim and deepen the power of purpose for yourself and your organization;
- Work with the image of the "new commons" - a meeting ground that holds the natural and social worlds, personal and professional commitments;
- Discover the power of the natural cycle of the seasons to enrich your perspective, to re-order your sense of time, and to increase your effectiveness in the practice of leadership;
- Develop adaptive leadership skills (pioneered by Ron Haifetz) to meet the tough challenges of today's communities and organizations;
- Rest and replenish your spirit.
Upcoming Powers of Leadership Retreat Cycles:
(Fall 2011 Midwest program in development, dates to be announced)
